Private Mail

How's about an option to switch off private mail? I mean if we can turn off quicknotes entirely, why not that? Just a thought.

Post 2 by the oracle (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Wednesday, 02-Aug-2017 15:10:06

because if a user turns quicknotes off by accident (and it does happen), another user can private mail them.

that's 1 reason I guess

another reason could be if a user wanted to send a long message to another user (longer than a quicknote), and the other use wants to save what they said.

perfect solution. save it in the inbox of private mail

I thought you could shut off private mail.

Post 5 by Pasco (my ISP would be out of business if it wasn't for this haven I live at) on Wednesday, 02-Aug-2017 15:42:14

If fact, I just tested it with someone who has all the boxes checked ignoring me. Private mail will not work.

But it's easy enough for the user to spot if everything is off.

Huh?

Huh what?

that post made no sense.

that's what. lol

I'm just sayin', the person could easily check if they have all messages turned off.

I brought this particular question up some time ago and was immediately slammed for it. I was told that private mail shouldn't be blocked and I think that it should at least be a choice because some of us don't wanna interact with people on here in any way except on the boards.

Post 12 by Remy (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Friday, 04-Aug-2017 12:39:48

No slamming going on here so far that I can see. It's extrememly easy to ignore private mail though isn't it? It's in its own little section. If you don't want any at all, ignore that section. If you want to block certain users, just delete that mail. Sure they could probably add a feature to block certain users. But then they "could" add a lot of features to this ancient machine.

Ah reckon yer right.

I'd also like to point out that if you want to completely block out private mail, you can also disable the email notifications which tell you that you have new mail on the zone BBS system, too. Anyway, it really does make no sense to add that feature to the ignore list. Even if you're bothered by the fact that the site is telling you that you have new messages, you can always go into your messages, merrily check the boxes for the messages you want to delete and hit that delete button without knowing what the message said. Problem solved!

I am confused here. If a person blocks private mail from another user, it never appears. To make sure on this, I just tried to send a private mail message to a person who has blocked me in all categories. Though I could compose the message, as soon as I hit send, I was informed that my message could not be sent because that person was blocking me. So, you can block mail.

Correct. I believe when Chelsea brought this up, that was suggested.

maybe it would be a good idea to put a message in place, where if you do try to send a message to someone who has blocked you, it says when you go to send it.. sorry, you can't do this (before you waste time actually writing it, and trying to send it)

Post 18 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Saturday, 05-Aug-2017 17:12:59

I think the point is still being missed though. If there were a checkbox to say "block all private mail" that would be an easy way to block all private mail because as things stand right now you can only block an individual user.

Ah, got it again.

Post 20 by Pasco (my ISP would be out of business if it wasn't for this haven I live at) on Sunday, 06-Aug-2017 3:33:00

I suppose that would be convinience for some. One can just pay no attention to it though.

Ah. The popular people who don't want to be?
I don't even have to worry about it. I don't get any.

Laughing.

I can't even delete messages, and I reported it through the contact on the site. I hit the checkbox for select all, hit delete, and my mail is still there. I read and responded to them all. I could see somehow a box for allowing people to not receive mail if they don't want it, just like the ignore option, but more site wide. It would have to be thought out more though I'm sure.
